Accent Wall vs. Feature Wall

What is the difference and is one better than the other? Let’s take a look at the definition of an Accent Wall & a Feature Wall to answer those questions.

Accent wall

An accent wall is a wall in a room that is painted differently to draw attention from the rest of the wall. They often meant to add style, contrast, and visuals to the room without overpowering the rest of the walls.

Feature wall

A feature wall is a distinct wall in a room that is different than other walls in a room to create a focal point in the room. They are often bold or dramatic in color and complement the color of other walls.

By definition, the differences are very slight.  An accent wall, while still providing a visual focal point is slightly more understated while a feature wall is typically more bold and dramatic in color, texture and style. It is usually a wall that is more unique in some aspect, likely requiring more planning.

Both are great options for creating energy, warmth, and personality in spaces that can otherwise lack visual appeal. Once we understand the function and purpose of an accent or feature wall, we can better identify how to use them within our own walls.

How and where do we use an Accent or Feature wall?

An Accent or Feature wall is often used to create a focal point without changing the composition of the room.

Paint, Wallpaper, Wood or Brick panel?

While paint is the most common choice for an Accent or Feature wall – both because of cost and convenience – there are many options that you can choose to reflect your personal style and to achieve your desired feel throughout your home.

You can be sure to find the right color and style that will help bring your space from drab to fab, no matter your aesthetic and budget.
